The Old Peabody Pew, Kate Douglas Wiggin's 1916 dramatization of her 1907 Christmas story, is annually produced by the Dorcas Society tradition at Tory Hill Church, Buxton Lower Corner in Maine.

This play was written at Kate Douglas Wiggin's (1856-1923) home Quilcote (See picture)

The story first appeared in the Ladies Home Journal, and the play was first staged in 1916 and became associated with the Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton, Maine.

  • Also included with this copy of the play is a program which was entitled "Eighteenth Author's Reading and Book-Play" with a cast of players from the Dorcas Society of the Maine towns of Hollis and Buxton. Wiggin (Mrs. George C Riggs) read the roll of The Reader.

This paperback book is an acting edition published by Samuel French. It is in firm condition with signs of handling and browning pages.  The cover has a turned corner and shows signs of its age.  It measures 5 1/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches and has 45 pages.
