 The American Musical Theater, 1967, Lehman Engel uses an historical perspective to treat Broadway, the Revue, the Contemporary Musical and Broadway Opera.  Brooks Atkinson introduces this book which has at least 61 full pages of photographs. 

Engel also provides a Discography, Published Librettos, and Published Vocal Scores. As composer and conductor, Engel described the musical stage as theater with the "spontaneity of poetry."


In fair to good condition, this book is firmly bound with only some foxing and signs of wear. The dust jacket, however, is ragged at its edges, not torn but showing its fifty plus years of handling. It is 9 1/4 inches by 10 inches  by 1 inch and has 236 pages.
