Low Man On a Totem Pole, 1941 (Reprint Edition 1945) by H. Allen Smith was an overnight sensation and initiated Smith's  popularity as a humorist. Hardcover.

Fred Allen, tremendously popular radio personality during the 1930s, provides an introduction which shows this contemporary brand of successful humor.

Smith (1907-1976) was a newspaperman humorist whose writings were best NYT sellers during the 1940s and 1950s. Well known for his practical jokes and genial personality, Smith was remembered even in one of his obituaries by his wit and humor.

This book is in good vintage condition--no marks or tears, firm and strong binding, slightly browning pages and signs of shelf wear. The dust jacket is in sad condition, but I include it because it has stayed with me.

The book measures 4 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches by 3/4 inch and has 205 pages of humanity.
