Vaughn provides a cursory view of the Colonial and Revolutionary periods and concentrates on the plays from the Romantic Movement starting in about 1828 and the move toward Realism in the drama following the Civil War.
The presentation is enhanced with a chronology and seven black and white stage scenes from past play.productions.
