European Theories of the Drama by Barrett H. Clark Newly Revised by Henry Popkin, 1965
European Theories of the Drama by Barrett H. Clark Newly Revised by Henry Popkin, 1965 adds a supplement on American Drama to the selected Commentaries on Dramatic Theory and Criticism from Aristotle to modern Times plus biographies and bibliographies.
Most would agree that this book is the one "indispensable" resource for students of the drama--an old reliable friend from its initial publication in 1918, renewed by its author in 1945, carefully revised by Henry Popkin in 1965 and still a timeless reference.
This copy is in good condition. A little shelf wear to the book itself; most wear is shown on the dust jacket which displays some tears and usage, understandable with a much used text which shows browning of pages and a little foxing and the marks of a removed bookplate. With all of its usage, however, the owner used his pen seriously only on Horace's "The Art of Poetry." Otherwise, it is free of marks and tears.
The book measures 6 1/2 inches by 9 by 1 3/4 inches and has 628 page including bibliography and index.
