Old Fraser 1984 Compiled by Carol Shankel and Barbara Watkins
Old Fraser University of Kansas, 1984 was compiled by Carol Shankel and Barbara Watkins and beautifully illustrated. First edition. Illustrated. Hardcover.
Fraser Hall was the oldest academic building west of the Mississippi River, and its destruction was strongly protested by an agitated public in 1965. Letters in the press, protests and counter suggestions and projects were rampant, and the single page suggesting outrage shows the compilers' obvious bias.
Bill Sollner's poem is a vivid memory. So tricky was the situation in 1965 that the bulldozing was underway before dawn one morning. As a member of the English Department housed in Fraser Hall at that time, I remember! Along with Professor Edgar Wolfe!
This book is in very good condition -- except for a name and note on the flyleaf, there are no marks or tears; the binding is very strong.
