Theatrical Sketches Here and There With Prominent Actors, 1894 by Margaret First Edition
Theatrical Sketches Here and There With Prominent Actors, 1894 by Margaret McKenny is a First Edtion Rare Book concerned with NY Theater, Gossip and History.
The author was a prominent New York society woman and writer, Margaret McKenny, well acquainted with the theatrical and operatic worlds of her day.
This collectable copy is a frequently read little treasure trove of the late 19th century theatrical scene.
Its 217 pages are packed with astute and well-written personal observations on such popular contemporary celebrities as Edwin Booth, Louis James, Maurice Barrymore, Kyrle Bellew, Henry Irving, Lester Wallack and Charles Hoyt.
There are also six formal studio portraits and promotional photographs of Margaret's subjects.
This is a rare book! It measures approximately 6-7/16 inches by 4 inches by 3/4 of an inch. The tan cover is soiled and worn at the bottom of the spine, and the title page is loose. The binding is clearly weakened after the frontispiece (as the picture shows) and in a few other places, but the book remains secure, and the pages, while browned with age, are clear and unmarked throughout.
